Hello everyone, great forum! Enjoy reading all of the topics.
I've had my bike now for a little over a year and need to get a new set of tires. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I want something that I can ride logging roads and trails with light mud but want to have the best possible pavement handling given the off road requirements. I realize there is a trade off but just wanted to hear from some experienced riders.
I have experience with the following 50/50 tires on my recently sold KLR: Kenda K270 - long wearing tire good on gravel, mud and pavement, a bit noisy on pavement. Did a 6000 km trip to the east coast (6000 Km's) and not even half worn. Mefo Explorer - expensive but long wearing, stiff sidewall, not noisy, confident in all terrains, very simlar to Hiedenau K60 which I also had. I have a set of Mitas E07 for my V Strom which came highly recommended by my Super Tenere buddy who got 17,000 Km's out of his. Good prices at MX - 1 Canada, free shipping but they sell out fast and can be hard to get. I believe A Vicious Cycle has them too ( recently changed company name to Twisted Throttle Canada). If I were you, I would go with the Mitas or Heidenau.
Thanks everyone, I was going to get the Mitas, I just got notification they were in stock from MX-1 Canada but I went with shinko 705. I know they are only 80/20 but I think I'll unfortunately going to be riding pavement mostly this summer now 1 trip planned for Timmins that might get cut short but will likely just bring my nobbies with me again.
Thanks for your input. If these ones wear too fast, I'll probably order the mitas next.
Told my wife it was time to get her GS658 dirty. Just had a TKC80 installed on the front and a Karoo3 on the back. It was a pretty good combination on the 1190. Hopefully give her some more confidence off the slab.
