can't wait to go riding instead of reading ( drinking beer ) IT'S TOO COLD IN THE GARAGE TO GO AND BOLT PARTS ON THE BIKE

We are all spending big $$ online! I am in the same boat. Too cold in the garage to tinker... I have a ton of wiring to do and parts to install on the ADVS and a ton of work on the 530 as well.
Wait till you see the write up on the 08 EXC 530R... 16000km on the original piston!! I will be switching it out to the 2010 piston and rings. I am anxious to see the cylinder wear.

As I'm neck deep in home renovations while wishing I was installing my Safari tanks and all the new bits I've aquired over the winter, the previous owner of my tanks teases me with a picture of the my actual tanks in action

Hate to tell you FINNDIAN but I just completed home renovations and am now planning to install all those bits and pieces that I acquired over the winter.
The incentive was that I could not touch the bike until the work was done, smart woman that wife of mine.

Ya I hear ya on the cost. I'll have the cost of another nice bike tied up in the basement this year and the SO still wants siding this year. I don't get it I thought the housewrap looks nice lol. I'd like a nicer kitchen too as I do the cooking and love a well set up kitchen but I think riding wins out in my books

Today was the day! I finished installing the garage door and opened it up to reveal the Black Biatch. And out she comes. After putting a few miles (smiles) on her. It's now time to rip it apart and do all the mods and maintenance I want to do before I ride. MOre to come.

Time for some preseason preventative maintenance and improvements. first off I've had Neduro's adv tank for a few years now and it's always been a PITA to get at the gas cap, especially when i'm all loaded up with gear on the backseat. A little pannier rack adjustment was in order. Remove pesky piece, along with same piece on other side of bike. Swap sides and do some test fitting Melt em back together Voila, easy access. Now on to the Waterpump rebuild. It was done just before I purchased the bike at around 14 k kms. I think it was all done with stock ktm parts. Now at a little over 40k kms I'll redo it with the CJRacer hardened shaft kit just to play it safe. Also I'll be upgrading the stock clutch push rod to a newer version.

did the water pump today. Changed to the upgraded clutch pushrod I have never inspected my clutch basket and due to the fact I have the older style outer basket with the metal band that may be suspect to failure, I figured a close inspection was in order. and while I was in there I couldn't help but create more work. might as well do the feliciani / meoni inner clutch hub mod. before after After turning the clutch hub into aluminum swiss cheese, out came the clutch oil jet for and oversizing treatment. next was to replace the front crashbar mounting bolts with studs to ease the installation of them. When I purchased my Safari gas tanks this winter I started searching or another set of side panels to paint flat black to match the tanks. My search led me to my original GO!! side panels. The panels came back to me and I sanded them down and cut out the left side panel with a Flanny mod then sprayed them semi gloss black. Once the waterpump and clutch were all buttoned up I installed the (new) side panels and test fitted a safari tank. Today ended with some test fitting of a crashbar that will need extensive modifying to fit with the big tanks. Tank and side panel in place Much more to do.

Looking good! I also want to do the stud mount for the crashbars one of these days. Did you modify the crashbars to fit around the fat tanks?

Looking good! I also want to do the stud mount for the crashbars one of these days. Did you modify the crashbars to fit around the fat tanks? I started fitting one just to see how much teasing it's going to take to get it to work. Looking like all 3 mounting points will have to be lengthened as well as modifying the angle where it wraps around the front. I don't feel the crash bars are really necessary as the Aqualine tanks are very robust but I think I'm addicted to my highway pegs on the long trips.

I had Craig through a couple of these updated clutch push rods in the parcel I just ordered for me and Dale. How big of a hole did you go on the oil jet Gord?

I didn't realize the 05 needed an updated rod. I thought it was just the 04.
I got krazy with the hole in the oil jet. mine was gettting buggered as it was super tight the first time I took it out and the slot is a bit damaged so I ordered a new one and decided to experiment with this one. I see guys that run them hard in the desert recommend between .80mm and 1mm. Some say .50mm works and still is acceptable for street use. So I drilled mine to .88 LOL. Its probably too big but it will be easy to see the effect a large jet has (experiment). My theory about my clutch dragging when the bike is cold is the clutch plates are not oiled enough at first. I'm thinking that oversizing and drilling extra clutch basket holes will help that. We'll see? definately good for longer life of the clutch booster and end bearing though.
It may be undriveable but I wanted the updated oil jet anyway and will probably end up with the .30mm back in there later.
ps. I'm so sick of this snow. I gotta do a left right tour soon.!

"SO still wants siding this year. I don't get it I thought the housewrap looks nice lol." Finndian Quote So....ya see?....when "I" get to be the Prime Minister...I am going to pass a law that " ALL housewrap has to be printed with a siding, stone, or brick pattern"...so...ya roll it on, staple it down...and viola!....done. Cheap enough that when it blows off every 2 yrs you can change color or patterns. Beautify the houses, and free up riding time...with 1 law. ...hey Gord...how's that for BBTT* ?? *BBTT = Big Bang Theory Thinking.
